Best Films of 2009 for Golden Globes and Oscars (Part 1)

Golden Globes and

Oscars Race (2010)

Now that we are nearing Oscar nominations and of course the awards itself, i think i can put in my choices for the best Hollywood (or at least English-spoken) films for 2009.

Best Animation. Hands down, i think Up! will win. With its appealing story (if you don't get teary-eyed in the first 11 minutes, you're numb!!) of a man (Carl) fulfilling his promise to his wife (whom he met when they were kids) and eventually encountering a fun journey with a kid (Rusell), a big bird (Kevin) and a dog (Dug!!), it captured kids' and adults' hearts and when eventually grossing $700M worldwide, Pixar had their funniest film (behind Toy Story and Nemo) ever.

Up! got 98% positive reviews from Rotten Tomatoes which is the highest for 2009. After watching it last night, im convinced this film will win.. My personal rating : A-

Predictions for Golden Globes :

James Cameron for Best Director (for Avatar); Hurt Locker for Best Film (Drama);
as Sandra B is a fave this year, i think shell win Best Actress (Drama) for blind side and

the e
ver Golden Globes fave (and actress chameleon) Meryl Streep for Best Actress (Comedy), i guess for Julie / Julia

Ill try to watch 'The Hurt Locker' next which is the most acclaimed American film for 2009. Already tauted to win Best Picture at the Golden Globes (and possibly Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow - yep, a woman directed this film), it has already received much buzz, also for Oscars Best Picture and Best Director (and hopefully for Best Actor, Jeremy Renner). Mahilig na uli kasi ang Americans sa war films lately because of their involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq, but it doesnt mean naman sana na war films din ang critically acclaimed... Haiz.. I will validate...

Other films recommended for viewing : A Single Man, The Last Station, 500 Days of Summer, The Blind Side ( a personal fave!!)and Inglourious Basterds (another war film).
